Cottà, in the commune of Neive, was among the first sites in the appellation to be bottled as a single vineyard. The Rocca family, based at Barbaresco itself, work a tiny holding in the middle of the south-west-facing slope, adjacent to their Gepin parcel of Barbera and directly facing the Ronchi vineyard. The soils here are sand-rich clay and marl and the microclimate is warmer than much of the appellation, which gives a generous style of Nebbiolo that nonetheless stays fine-boned in the hands of a producer known for restraint.
