The first lies next to their Gepin site, planted to Barbera, and faces the Ronchi vineyard; the second sits in the highest section of the cru. Cottà's soils are sand-rich clay and marl, and the microclimate is warmer than much of the appellation, a combination that grows generous wines that nevertheless keep their fine-grained texture. That suits Rocca's elegant reading of Nebbiolo, which favours aromatics and tannin quality over weight.
