albino-rocca-barbaresco-montersino-2017
Albino Rocca Barbaresco Montersino 2017

Albino Rocca Barbaresco Montersino comes from a small parcel at the southern tip of the appellation, on some of the highest and coolest ground in Barbaresco.

The Montersino cru lies at the southern edge of the zone close to Treiso, at 320 metres above sea level, which places it within the highest and coolest part of Barbaresco. The Rocca family's parcel there runs to 0.42 hectares. The south-facing vines were planted in 1998 by Angelo Rocca and are rooted on very poor clay and limestone slopes carrying thin layers of sandstone; the sandstone brings finesse, as does the altitude. Daniela Rocca points out that this soil type, known locally as the Formazioni di Lequio, resembles what is found at Monforte in Barolo and among the chalkier ground of Serralunga. What the site produces is a Barbaresco of unusual lift and detail, one the family suggests will suit Burgundy drinkers as readily as Barbaresco drinkers.

It is finely built and will develop over ten years or more. Serve at 16-18°C with roast veal, mushroom risotto or a mature Castelmagno.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur.
