The wine takes its name from Gepin, the previous owner who tended these parcels in Ronchi at Barbaresco and Cottà at Neive. The vines were planted between 1950 and 1974, and their age shows in a concentration and length seldom found in the appellation, where the finest ground is normally given over to Nebbiolo. Vinification is classical, with maturation in large Austrian casks rather than barriques, and the wine is bottled unfiltered. The result is ripe and pulpy but keeps Barbera's characteristic acidity, giving a balanced, medium-bodied red with more intensity and freshness than the category usually delivers.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrink over the next eight years, with agnolotti, braised pork or a rich tomato-based pasta.
