Most of Algueira's holdings lie on the sunnier side of the Sil; this vineyard is on the opposite, north-facing Ourense bank, where less direct sun means slower ripening and firmer natural acidity. Fernando González has painstakingly restored the terraces here, and the vines, between 30 and 80 years old, are rooted in the losa, or schist, of the Amandi gorge. Everything is worked by hand on slopes too steep for machinery. Fermentation was with natural yeasts only and the wine was raised entirely without oak, so what reaches the glass is the site rather than the cellar. The name is a nod to the Celtic ancestry of the area: Brandan was a Celtic warlord who first settled it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGood young and for about five years, with grilled fish, roast chicken and soft cheeses.
