The east coast is the driest and one of the warmest parts of the island, sheltered from the prevailing westerly weather by the central highlands, and it gives Pinot Noir more ripeness and structure than the cooler south and north. Brian Franklin established the estate and makes the wine himself, working with low-yielding estate fruit, fermenting in small open vats with hand plunging and maturing the wine in French oak barrels before bottling.
