La Maltroie is a premier cru on the Santenay side of the village, on shallow clay over limestone, and its wines are generally more precisely built than those from the warmer climats further south. Armand Heitz has farmed his family's parcels here since 2012, working biodynamically and as part of a mixed farm that keeps animals and crops among the vineyards.
