La Maltroie runs along the lower ground close to the village, on thin clay over hard limestone, ground that gives whites of finer definition than the broader climats further south. Armand Heitz has run his family's vines since 2012 from a base in Chassagne, farming biodynamically and reviving the mixed farming, with animals and cereals among the vines, that Burgundy practised before specialisation.
