Growers have long noted that the vineyard has more in common with its Vosne neighbours than with the sturdier wines made at the southern end of Nuits, and it is generally reckoned among the finest sites in the appellation. The soil is limestone with a covering of clay and scree washed down from the slope above, and the vineyard sits on gently rising ground rather than the steeper pitch found further south.
