Arnaud Mortet works 0.45 hectares in Mazoyères dessous, the lower section, with vines averaging 45 years. The soil here carries more clay than his Charmes parcel, and that reserve of moisture is a real advantage in warm, dry seasons. In the cellar the approach is the same painstaking one used across the range: between half and 60% of the fruit was destemmed by hand, berry by berry, to leave the grapes intact, and the wine was raised in 50% new oak. The result is a refined rather than muscular reading of grand cru Gevrey.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBest from about eight years and capable of much longer.
