The soil is deep and rich in red clay with a good deal of rock beneath, a powerful and early-ripening terroir equally suited to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Bachelet holding is small: half the vines are original plantings, among the oldest in Meursault, with the rest going in during 1998. Alex Gambal, Patrick Javillier and Confuron-Cotetidot also farm here, and typically make a fleshier wine than the brothers, whose reading of the site is closer in shape to their Puligny. The result is deep and cool rather than broad, with a long, sappy finish.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApproachable from two years and good for a decade.
