At 400 metres it is one of the highest and steepest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, and its stony, chalk-rich soils give a prettier, mid-weighted wine rather than the muscular style Pommard is usually associated with — closer in shape to Volnay. The 0.25-hectare parcel came to Alex and Marc Bachelet from their father, who sold the fruit to négociants until 2011; the brothers are better known for their whites in Maranges and Puligny-Montrachet. In most years the wine ferments with a good proportion of whole bunches, but appreciably less was used here, partly because of the ripeness of the stems and partly to help fill the tank.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrink from about three years and expect eight to ten in total.
