The name is said to derive from folles-terres, or crazy earth, a reference to the violent erosion these slopes can suffer in heavy rain. The Bachelet brothers work a low-yielding parcel of forty-year-old vines here, next to holdings of Leflaive and just below the Truffière vineyard. Their roughly half-hectare plot lies in the lower eastern part of the vineyard, where the soil is very rocky and the vines set tiny bunches with little juice; Marc Bachelet observes that although the vines are only forty years old they behave as though they were twice that age.
