Although it is reasonably close to Clos de la Boutière, the ground is markedly different: red clay over rocky limestone, a combination that gives aromatic, racy reds of finesse and freshness rather than weight. Marc Bachelet says this is always the site that delivers the best acidity in the domaine's reds, whatever the season, and it is often referred to locally as a white terroir for that reason. The brothers farm from Dezize-lès-Maranges and have expanded their Santenay holdings steadily. The wine was fermented with roughly 25 per cent whole bunches, which adds perfume and a little tannic frame without pushing the extraction, and raised in used Burgundian barrels.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOpen now or hold for five to eight years.
