Les Charmes Dessus lies just below the Clos Rousseau premier cru on the south-eastern flank of the commune. Although it is not far from the domaine's Clos de la Boutière, the ground is quite different: red clay over rocky limestone, the kind of soil more often associated with Chardonnay, which is why the vineyard carries its white-terroir nickname. Marc Bachelet says the site reliably delivers the best acidity of any of their reds, whatever the season, and the wines it gives are aromatic and racy with real finesse rather than weight. The fruit here fermented with roughly 30% whole bunches, and the brothers use the same restrained oak regime they apply across the reds.

Ready after two or three years and holding for eight or so. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or grilled mushrooms.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur.
