Les Prarons Dessus lies just beneath Clos de Tavannes and adjacent to Morgeot, on chalky soils carrying a good measure of red clay. That clay, together with the age of the vines, gives a darker and rounder Santenay than the appellation's reputation for firmness would suggest, with finer tannins to match. Bachelet-Monnot, the domaine run by brothers Marc and Alexandre from Dezize-lès-Maranges, has built its name on aromatic, finely drawn reds from the Côte's southern reaches. This cuvée was fermented with one-third whole bunches and raised in traditional 228-litre barrels, of which 20 per cent were new, a restrained regime that leaves the fruit and the site's fine-grained structure in front.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApproachable after two or three years and good for eight to ten.
