Hattenheim is one of its historic wine villages, a short walk from Kloster Eberbach, the Cistercian monastery founded in 1136 that did more than any other institution to shape German viticulture. Engelmannsberg is a classified single vineyard on the slope behind the village, and Balthasar Ress is a long-established family house based in Hattenheim itself.
