La Pièce Sous Le Bois is its highest premier cru, a limestone-rich, high-altitude terroir that Leroux has championed for years, first for its whites and increasingly for its underappreciated reds. He owns two parcels here, one planted to Chardonnay in 1953 and a second to Pinot Noir, which he first vinified in 2014 before securing an estate parcel in 2017. Warmer, drier seasons have suited the cool, rocky site.
