La Pièce Sous Le Bois is the largest of the premiers crus there, sitting at 320 to 350 metres on thin, stony ground at the edge of the forest. The altitude brings cold winters and a long, late ripening season, though the site catches plenty of summer sun, and it has become a more valuable position as the region warms.
