The vineyard sits mid-slope between Les Santenots to the south and En Champans to the north, on thin, stony limestone that gives Volnay its combination of perfume and fine structure, and its fourteen-odd hectares are farmed by names such as d'Angerville, Lafarge and Pousse d'Or. The vineyard is divided into three lieux-dits, and Benjamin Leroux farms 0.5 hectares of Pinot Fin in the section known as Caillerets-Dessus, planted in 1945, 1985 and the late 1990s. The wine was made with a high proportion of whole bunches, between 60 and 70%, with only the youngest-vine fruit destemmed, and aged in roughly one-quarter new oak.
