Leroux's parcel lies close to Clos de la Barre and encroaches into the neighbouring Mitans l'Ormeau lieu-dit. The soil is a fine clay shot through with limestone, and the vines average fifty years of age. Volnay is the most delicately framed of the Côte de Beaune communes, and Mitans tends to give a wine of clear red-fruited perfume with rather more flesh than the village bottlings, without losing the fine-boned tannin that marks the place. Only a pinch of whole bunch went into the ferment this year, keeping the emphasis on fruit and site rather than stem character.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOpen from three years, with a decade of life ahead.
