Leroux has made Volnay for over two decades and knows the ground well. This bottling blends Les Grands Poisots and Les Petits Poisots, both bordering Pommard, with fruit declassified from his Premier Cru holdings. The deep clay soils and old vines give density and ripe tannin, which Leroux balances with judicious use of whole bunches and maturation in large oak rather than small barrels. The result leans towards Pommard in shape while keeping Volnay's aromatic lift, and it is unusually complete for a village wine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlready drinking well and good for eight to twelve years.
