La Pièce au Comte was the Tremblay family’s first holding in Chablis. Its oldest vines, planted in 1934, were replanted in 2014 with massale cuttings; the remainder date from the 1950s. Romain Bessin notes that the vines here suffer from court-noué, the fanleaf virus, which reduces vigour and concentrates both sugar and acidity in the fruit that does set. The result is deeper and more powerful than the domaine’s straight Fourchaume, at once more intense and, oddly, more weightless. Maturation was split evenly between tank and barrel, with less than 10 per cent of the wood new, so the oak sits well behind the fruit.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrink from a year or two out to about ten.
