Jean-Claude Bessin, whose domaine at La Chapelle-Vaupelteigne is now run with his son-in-law Julien Tremblay, planted both holdings at the same time and made the wines together for years. La Forêt was first bottled separately in 2016, once Bessin accepted that two vineyards this close could give such different results. The parcel's position further up the slope and its complex stony soils give a straighter, spicier and chalkier wine than the Montmains, with less flesh and a firmer mineral spine.
