Bessin-Tremblay, based at La Chapelle-Vaupelteigne, farms a shade over a hectare here, all of it on the upper part of the slope with a south-east aspect on Kimmeridgian marl. The parcel adjoins the domaine's La Forêt vines, and the two were planted at the same time, between 1968 and 1974; until 2006 the fruit from both was vinified together as a single Montmains. This is one of very few cuvées in the range matured entirely in old oak barrels rather than tank, a choice that adds a little breadth without adding oak flavour, and the age of the wood keeps the emphasis on the salinity and fine floral lift the family looks for from this slope.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eApproachable on release and worth holding five to eight years.
