Langhorne Creek's deep alluvial soils and the cooling breezes off Lake Alexandrina produce generous yet balanced reds, and Cabernet has long been one of the district's strengths. The Mulberry Tree vineyard is named after a very old mulberry tree that stands beside the vines on the river bank. Cabernet Sauvignon makes up the bulk of the blend, with small amounts of Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot adding perfume and depth. The winemaking is traditional, with open fermenters and maturation in French oak, which brings a touch of spice to the blackcurrant fruit.

The 375ml bottle suits a midweek dinner for two or a glass on its own. Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with lamb cutlets, a beef and mushroom pie or hard cheeses. It drinks well now, and with soft, fine tannins there is no need to decant.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur.
