Where most wines at this level lean on Tempranillo, which is both easier and more profitable to grow, Garnacha here makes up around forty per cent of the blend. It comes from El Agudo, a sixty-year-old plot of sandy river-stone soils at Alfaro on Monte Yerga in Rioja Oriental. The Tempranillo is picked from mature vines at Ábalos in the high country of the Rioja Alta, with a little Ábalos Graciano for freshness and finesse. Puyaubert ferments in a combination of concrete and steel, now with a measure of semi-carbonic maceration, then ages the wine for six months in concrete and 5,000-litre oak vats.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMade for drinking young, over the next three years, and it takes a light chill well. Try it with chorizo, grilled lamb cutlets or a plate of jamón.
