Gran Reserva is the most demanding of Rioja's ageing categories: at least five years between harvest and release, with a minimum of two in oak barrel and the remainder in bottle, and in practice many houses exceed those minimums considerably. Tempranillo leads the blend, with Graciano contributing acidity and structure and Garnacha rounding it out.
