Tradition attributes the planting of white grapes on this slope to the Emperor Charlemagne, whose name the vineyard still carries. Bonneau du Martray holds one of the largest single blocks in Corton-Charlemagne and farms it biodynamically; for most of its modern history this one wine has been the domaine's reason for existing.
