Les Crays sits in the hamlet of Champvent, and the name comes from craie, the French for chalk, which describes the soil accurately enough: white limestone rocks scattered through clay strata. Jean-Philippe Bret notes that certified organic vineyards are hard to find in this part of Burgundy, which makes this plot of 30- to 40-year-old vines a useful find. The 2022 was vinified entirely in barrel, giving a textural white with a stony, precise palate and a fine chalky close.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrinking now and good for four or five years.
