Abel and 115 clones are planted, and in most years Jeff Byrne works only with Abel, which he prizes for its Christmas-spice perfume; he has taken fruit from the site for a dozen vintages. The ferment included 20 per cent carbonic maceration and 20 per cent whole bunches, with malolactic conversion and maturation in 500-litre French puncheons, barrels topped monthly, bottled after ten months. He picks in the high twelves and low thirteens.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLuminous red fruit, spice, earth and floral perfume, medium-bodied and slinky over feather-light tannin. A warmer season pushed it towards a Côte de Beaune shape.
