Oct 2021","description":"\u003cp\u003eLa Closerie is Jérôme Prévost's tiny estate at Gueux, and the wine is one of the few serious Champagnes built almost entirely on Meunier.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePrévost farms a little over two hectares at Les Béguines, on the western side of the Montagne de Reims, where the topsoil is sand over chalk rather than the pure chalk of the grand cru villages. He began making his own wine in the mid-1990s with help from Anselme Selosse, and works on a scale that produces only a few thousand bottles a year. The parcel is dominated by Meunier, with a small proportion of other varieties among the vines, and the fruit is pressed and fermented in barrel with natural yeasts, without malolactic blocking or heavy intervention. Each release is based on a single harvest, identified by the code on the label, and dosage is kept minimal or omitted altogether.
