Jan 2023","description":"\u003cp\u003eChampagne Suenen Oiry Blanc de Blancs is one of the only pure Oiry wines on the market, from 1.5 hectares of grand cru chalk.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOiry is the least discussed of the Côte des Blancs grand crus, tucked beside Chouilly at the northern end of the slope. Aurélien Suenen’s bottling, with his single-vineyard La Cocluette, accounts for almost all the wine made from the village on its own. The fruit comes from five parcels totalling 1.5 hectares planted in Oiry’s compact white Campanian chalk, from Le Champ Braux planted in 1955 to La Cocluette planted in 1987 and 1999, averaging forty-five years. These vineyards lie at the base of the slope, where only a little topsoil sits above hard bedrock; in La Cocluette the soil is barely fifty centimetres deep. The base wine fermented naturally and aged for nine months in enamelled tank and seasoned Burgundy barrels and demi-muid, and the wine spent thirty months on lees. This release is a 2019 base with forty-five per cent reserve wines from 2013 to 2018.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrinking well now and good for another six to eight years.
