The commune is small, its properties tiny by Médoc standards, and its finest sites sit on a plateau of gravel over clay with a seam of iron-rich subsoil beneath. Clinet lies on that plateau, in company with some of the most sought-after names in Bordeaux, and is planted chiefly to the Merlot that suits heavy ground, with a little Cabernet Sauvignon for structure.
