Château Closiot covers eight hectares, making it one of the smallest properties in the commune; for comparison, Climens has 30 and Coutet 18. Its vines sit on the Clos Bonneau, red earth dotted with pebbles over the plateau's limestone base, surrounded by Climens, Doisy-Védrines and Coutet. Those soils stay relatively cool, which gives Jean-Marie Guffens's wines the steel and freshness that offsets the late-picked fruit. The clos is planted almost entirely to Sémillon, with a little Sauvignon Gris, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc, and includes four hectares of 100-year-old vines. This cuvée is a draconian selection, pressed in a traditional vertical press and aged 18 months in barrel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrinking now and capable of decades in bottle.
