Closiot covers eight hectares, which makes it one of the smallest properties in the commune — Climens has 30 and Coutet 18 — and its vines lie on the Clos Bonneau, where red earth scattered with pebbles rests on that limestone base. The soils stay relatively cool, which gives Jean-Marie Guffens' wines a mineral steeliness to offset the late-picked fruit. The clos is planted almost entirely to Sémillon, with Sauvignon Gris, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc alongside, and includes four hectares of century-old vines.
