The property has been held by the Perrin family since the early twentieth century, and is one of the few estates to plant all thirteen permitted varieties, with an unusually high proportion of Mourvedre. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically. Fewer than one bottle in ten from the appellation is white, and Beaucastel's version draws on Roussanne alongside Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc and the rare Picardan, a variety that has all but disappeared elsewhere.
