Château de Coulaine has been held by the same family since the fifteenth century and lies north of the Vienne on clay-limestone slopes, farmed organically for decades by Etienne and Pascale Bonnaventure. Sinople comes from vines of more than thirty years and is fermented in barrel, which broadens the texture of a grape that can be severe when raised only in tank, without covering the limestone-driven acidity underneath.
