Most estates are minute, a few hectares worked by a single family, which makes Château de Sales, at close to fifty hectares, a genuine outlier. It sits towards the north western edge of the appellation, on lighter sand and gravel over clay, and has remained with the same family for a remarkably long time, a continuity rare anywhere in Bordeaux.
