In 2020 twenty two climats were promoted to premier cru, formal recognition of what growers had understood for generations, and Les Quarts at Chaintré is among them. The Clos des Quarts is a walled parcel within that climat, held in single ownership; it was acquired in 2012 by the Mâconnais grower Olivier Merlin together with Dominique Lafon of Meursault, who farm it and make the wine between them.
