Haut-Bailly is best known for a block of very old vines, planted before the phylloxera era and containing a jumble of varieties, which is picked and fermented together and goes into the grand vin. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, supported by Merlot with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Since 1998 the estate has belonged to the family of the American banker Robert G. Wilmers, who invested heavily in the vineyard and built a new gravity-fed cellar into the slope.
