Château Laballe lies at Parleboscq, and the Laudet family has been there since 1820. Aged Armagnac of this kind conveys a sense of place that is rare among spirits, and Laballe's vintage releases are notable for their texture and persistence. The wine is distilled in the domaine's wood-fired copper still, which dates from 1923, and the spirit then matures in Chêne Noir Gascon — 410-litre barrels coopered from oak cut in the nearby Landes forest. That thick-grained wood gives plenty of tannin and spice, and is a large part of the house style.
