A wine under this name has appeared since the 1800s, though in its modern form it is a selection of the younger vines and the vats not taken for the grand vin. The blend usually carries a higher proportion of Merlot than Lafite itself, with Cabernet Sauvignon at its heart and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is made in the same cellars by the same team, and aged in barrel with a smaller share of new oak.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eServe at 17 degrees with roast lamb, beef or game birds, decanting an hour or two ahead.
