Langoa was bought in 1821 by Hugh Barton, an Irish merchant whose family had settled in Bordeaux the century before, and it has stayed with his descendants ever since, one of the longest unbroken ownerships in the region. Barton also acquired a portion of the neighbouring Léoville estate a few years later, and both wines are still made in the cellars beneath the Langoa château.
