Merlot plays an unusually large role here, which gives the wine its famous plush texture, while Cabernet Sauvignon adds line and structure and Petit Verdot brings a peppery lift. 2009 was a warm, sunny year across Bordeaux, and it produced a deep crimson wine with blackberry, blackcurrant, liquorice and pepper, generous oak, and a combination of power and silkiness.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGive it time in the glass: two hours in a decanter helps this big vintage open up.
