Pavillon Rouge is no modern invention: the name appears in the estate's records well back into the nineteenth century, and it has been made consistently since the 1970s. The blend leans on Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, and comes from parcels and vats judged not to belong in the grand vin, a selection that has grown steadily stricter over the decades.
