L’Atypic lives up to its name: 60 per cent Malbec and 40 per cent Cabernet Franc, co-fermented, with no Merlot at all. Because Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux does not permit that make-up, the wine carries the Vin de France designation instead, which says more about the regulations than about the wine. The vines behind it are now 40 years old. Fermentation runs on indigenous yeasts and maturation takes place entirely in concrete, with no barrel at any point, following the same approach as the estate’s classic bottling.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrinking well now and worth four or five years.
