Jean Gautreau bought the run-down property in 1969 and built its reputation without a classification of any kind, later withdrawing it from the Cru Bourgeois system altogether, and the estate has continued in the same hands since his death. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend with Merlot in support and a little Cabernet Franc.
