The heavy clay holds water through dry summers and suits Merlot, which takes a larger share of the blend here than is usual in the Médoc, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and a notable proportion of Petit Verdot. Martin and Olivier Bouygues, owners of Château Montrose, acquired the property, and the two estates have since been run by the same team, with the vineyard progressively replanted and the cellar rebuilt.
