Beauregard sits among the left-bank crus south west of the town, on the same Kimmeridgian clay-limestone as the rest of the appellation but on a slope with better exposure and drainage than the flat village land, which is what the classification is really recognising. Left-bank sites face broadly south east and ripen a little later than the grand cru amphitheatre opposite. Premier cru fruit is normally picked separately and given a longer élevage than village wine, with extended time on fine lees and, in some cellars, a portion in older barrel.
